RAK #136 – Paid for Stranger’s Lunch

without comments

RAK #136 – the old standby, but never gets old…I paid for the car behind me in line at the drive-thru, and gave the cashier a RAKnote for the other car’s owner, so I’m hoping this made their day and maybe inspired them to ‘pay it forward’.

RAK #134 – Donated More Items to Goodwill

without comments

RAK #134 – Time for more Spring Cleaning!  We did another audit of our belongings, and gathered up more clothes, toys, computer items, and other stuff that we just don’t need, and took another trip to Goodwill.  Feels good to not only help others, but to also realize that we don’t need so many ‘things’ to be able to be happy.

We are planning to make this a monthly activity!

Random Acts of Kindness surprises Quad City shoppers

without comments

It was a lucky day for Quad City shoppers who found themselves on the receiving end of some random acts of kindness Monday.

Laura Bettenhausen’s morning stop at the gas pump got a whole lot brighter when Jennifer Naeve surprised her with $20 towards her purchase.

“$20 is great, $20 for anything is great, much less gas. Definitely have to pay it forward,” said Bettenhausen.

In celebration of their branch’s grand opening, workers from Ascentra Credit Union spent the day surprising their Bettendorf neighbors with the random acts of kindness. They called the program “Stepping Up,” and made stops paying for gas bills, drinks and snacks, and lunch tabs at restaurants near their new 53rd Avenue location.

RAK #127 – Let a Stranger Cut in Line

without comments

RAK #127 – today at the store, I let someone cut in line that had fewer items.  Such a simple thing, but a nice way to spread some kindness.

Random Acts of Kindness Captured by Car Dashcams in Russia

without comments

When a huge meteor exploded over Russia back in February, the incident was captured by a large number of drivers who drive around with dashcams pointed out the front of their windshield. The story put a spotlight on the fact that dashcams are widely used in Russia due to the prevalence of insurance fraud.

Footage from Russian dashcams found online is often quite dark (figuratively, not literally), showing horrible accidents and tragedies. Not so with the video above — it’s a compilation of random acts of kindness captured by ordinary drivers.

It’s a video that may restore some of your faith in humanity. “The world isn’t without good people,” a sentence found in the video says, “Any act can become one of great kindness if it is done selflessly. When was the last time you did a good deed?”

The video shows many scenes of people doing good to one another, from men and boys helping elderly ladies cross the street, to people brushing snow off cars and lifting/pushing them back onto the road, to people protecting a family of ducks and a baby (?!?) from oncoming cars.

If you’d like to see a video that’s similar both in subject matter and in style, check out the “happy moments” security camera compilation we shared last June. For that video, Coke took a bunch of happy security camera clips and strung them together into a feel-good video.
