perform a Random Act of Kindness every day, for an entire year. Can you do it?

RAK #82 – Cleaned Up Trash…Again

without comments

RAK #82 – Cleaned up Trash. Again!

In our shared kitchen area at work, I walked by three empty donut boxes this morning…and I can’t believe that not one person bothered to throw any of these away after grabbing the last one, but perhaps they saw me throw out the trash and felt guilty…

RAK #81 – Note & Candy at Starbucks

without comments

RAK #81 – ahhh Starbucks…how many times have your customers and staff been the recipient of my RAKproject?  Pretty simple – hit the drive-thru, gave the employee a RAK Note & candy, along with a small tip.

BAM!  RAK completed! 🙂

RAK #80 – Courteous Driving

without comments

RAK #80 – it seems odd, but something as simple as being a courteous driver can be a Random Act of Kindness…especially during rush hour when stress levels are high and our first instinct is to be selfish.  But this morning while driving my son to school, I decided to slow down and let a car merge in front of me when her lane ended, rather than speed up and let her try to merge behind me.

Such a simple thing, but you never know what a small gesture like that can do for someone’s day…

RAK #79 – Notes & Candy for Cleaning Staff

without comments

RAK #79 – while working late one night, I heard the Cleaning Staff making their rounds through the office.  I had some RAK Notes and candy in my bag, and decided to give them to the two ladies working that night. They were really appreciative, and it made me wonder how many people take a moment and thank some of these people we see every day but take for granted?

RAK Roundup: Random Act leads to Prom to Remember

without comments

MARIETTA, Ga. — It all started when Donnie Gooding asked Jessica Wilson to be his Valentine.

The Lassiter High School students were looking forward to their prom, but without a wheelchair van for two, they had a problem.

Jessica’s aunt asked for a Random Act of Kindness, and the 11Alive Help Desk turned to AMS Van.

The high school sweethearts were thrilled this past week, when the big day arrived.

After Jessica and Donnie’s story first aired, others in the community reached out to make their prom an affair to remember. A salon did Jessica’s hair and makeup, a boutique gave her jewelry, and a florist designed their corsage and boutonniere.

Doug from AMS Vans served as the driver to take the couple to Atlanta, but not before they shared a dinner, compliments of Aspens Signature Steaks.

Finally, Jessica and Donnie arrived at the Egyptian Ballroom at the Fox Theatre. Donnie was definitely ready to party!

Fellow Lassiter students gave the couple a rousing welcome. They were even invited to be part of the prom court. Jessica escorted Prom King James Rowe, and Donnie did the honors for Prom Queen Emma Kate Protis.

But Jessica said the best part of prom, besides going with her favorite beau, was the dancing.

“That was awesome! Thank you so much,” she said.

RAK #78 – Random Notes at Work

without comments

RAK #78 – it’s been a busy week already, so I haven’t been able to plan much, but I decided today to leave random, anonymous RAK Notes & candy around my workplace for coworkers to find.  Only a few people know that I’m the one doing it, so I can equally provide random kindness and absolve myself of any wrongdoing if anyone gets upset.

Although, now that it’s documented on this blog…

RAK #77 – Gave a Parking Spot to a Stranger

without comments

RAK #77 – returning from lunch at my office, I spotted an open parking space near the employee entrance, and decided to grab it…but I also noticed another employee driving behind me.  Despite not wanting to walk far in the windy, chilly weather, I decided to pass the spot and give it to the person behind me and parked in a spot much further away.

The RAKs are not superfun at times…but for that person, it was their lucky day. Perfect for celebrating St. Patty’s Day. 😉

RAK #76 – Cleaned Up Trash

without comments

RAK #76 – Friday at work, I came across some trash that someone left behind in the common kitchen area (side note – how annoying is that?  I mean, is it really that hard to throw away an empty tea bag and used packets of sugar?  Not to mention all the spilled sugar on the counter…).  I took a few seconds and cleaned up the mess…a simple act, but it made me feel good to do my part.

RAK #75 – Random Notes at the Store

without comments

RAK #75 – While stopping at Walmart, I decided to take some RAK Notes with me and distribute them in on the shopping carts at the entrance, so strangers will find a nice inspirational note when the grab a cart.  I hope it made someone’s day.

RAK #74 – Courteous Driving

without comments

RAK #74 – this one I did without even realizing it…during heavy traffic, I let someone merge in front of me while others drove right on by…and it wasn’t done as an active act of kindness. I just saw the other car and thought they would appreciate someone letting them in.

So maybe this crazy RAK concept is working after all… 🙂
