RAK #21 – held the door for someone

RAK #21 – while at a store, I noticed a shopper struggling to open the door with arms full of items, so I opened and held the door so the person could exit. Simple!

RAK #20 – stopped for a pedestrian

without comments

RAK #20- while driving, I noticed a pedestrian waiting to cross the street with no stoplight, and cars kept going right by.  I decided to stop and allow this person to cross, and so did the car next to me.  Another simple but kind act.

Acts of Service for MLK Day

without comments

MLK_portrait

“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way”. ? Martin Luther King Jr.

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day we honor the legacy of doctor King through service and volunteering.

Since this year’s MLK day falls during the presidential inauguration, President Obama and the first lady marked the national day of service on Saturday by staining bookshelves at a Washington school. If you didn’t get to volunteer over the weekend, there are still many opportunities to volunteer.

To find an opportunity in your community, just log on to 2013pic.org/service and enter your zip code.

RAK #19 – while stopping at 7-11 last night, I handed the clerk a note and some M&Ms and said “thanks”. I saw the guy read the note and smile on my way out. Great stuff.

inexpensive Random Acts of Kindness Ideas

without comments

RAK_SITEBANNER4

I know the idea of daily Acts of Kindness can be overwhelming, especially when you consider how easily expenses can add up.  But Random Acts of Kindness don’t necessarily need to be cost a great deal of money.  Here are a ten inexpensive ideas…

  1. be a courteous driver
  2. leave a collection of positive news clippings in a waiting room
  3. refrain from gossiping and speak well of others
  4. let someone get ahead of you in line
  5. babysit for a single parent
  6. compliment a stranger sincerely
  7. run an errand for someone
  8. donate an hour of your professional services
  9. invite someone who is alone over for dinner
  10. write a letter of appreciation to someone

I would love to hear some of your ideas too!

RAK #18 – courteous driving

without comments

RAK #18 – this was an easy one, but it counts.  While dropping my son off at school, there was a parent attempting to back out into the long line of traffic, and a dozen cars went past, not one of them letting her in.  I decided to be the exception.  Just a simple act, but a bummer to see so many others pass right on by.

That’s the whole point of this – simple kindness in every day life. I won’t give up!

RAK #17 – bought lunch for a stranger

without comments

RAK #17 – I bought lunch for the person behind me in the restaurant drive-thru line. I’ve done it before, but I never tire of the look on the recipient’s face in my rear-view mirror as I pull away. Totally worth it!

RAK #16 – put gas in the wife’s car

with 2 comments

RAK#16 – ok, ok…it’s not random, but filling up the tank in my wife’s car on a frigid morning is definitely an act of kindness, so I’m counting it!

RAK #15 – gave up parking spot to a stranger

without comments

RAK#15 – when I arrived at my office in the chilly morning, the parking lot was overfilled.  Driving around, I discovered one open spot in the entire lot,  as someone else was driving down the same path.  I happen to be closer, but decided to give up the open spot to them so they wouldn’t have to walk too far in the cold weather.  I hope they appreciated it, because the long walk from the far lot was COLD! 🙂
